Black Friday is a tradition that shoppers look forward to every year. It marks the start of the Christmas shopping season and is the best time to snag the things that shoppers have eyeing and waiting for. For many years, it has become the busiest day in retail shopping. People flock to their nearest shopping center in the wee hours of the morning. Black Friday in 2013 will be no different.

History Of Black Friday

It may be a good time for both businesses and consumers, but why is it called Black Friday? Black seems to have a negative implication and there was an attempt to change it to Big Friday and Big Saturday, but it failed for the name Black Friday has stuck. It was called Black Friday because of the rush of people causing massive traffic jams and the uncontrollable crowd. It has been in the news even more in recent years.

For business owners, Black Friday is a welcome time. Certain business can nearly operate at a loss until the holiday shopping season, where most of their revenue comes in. The sudden holiday turnaround peaks during the Black Friday, where sales are often the highest.

Updated October 31, 2013: One new thing I am seeing a lot of this year are companies creating mobile apps or email lists to let customers know about new deals before and during Black Friday 2013. Walmart, for example, has a mobile app that they are pushing people to download to get the earliest notifications of special deals and discounts. Target is doing something similar with their marketing efforts as well. You have to sign up to get exclusive first access to their latest deals. This is an interesting move designed to capitalize on some of the trends related to Black Friday shopping. I’ve signed up for all of the alerts so BlackFridayTech.com will have the first word when new technology and gadget products get discounted.

DVDs and Videogames

If you’re having a hard time squeezing out ideas on what gift to buy for the male species, then this suggestion will help ease the trouble. During Black Friday, DVD and Videogame prices also drop, so if you are in need of a gift for your son or your special someone who still has the kid inside him, then this is the answer for you. You will get the same excellent quality of a regular-priced DVD or Videogame for a lesser price, so it isn’t bad at all. This offer usually happens during Black Friday as businesses would want to get rid of their stock and earn from them before new games and movies are released next year, so if you are collector yourself, then this is the best time to buy the series that you’ve always wanted to watch, or buy the videogame that you’ve always longed to try.

Here are some predictions for the popular and discounted DVDs & video games for Black Friday 2013:
